5 Silvers, but no Decanter Golds

Decanter's World Wine Awards 2007 have awarded 5 Silver Medals for Pinotage, but no Golds. The silver winners are

  • Diemersfontein Carpe Diem Pinotage 2005

  • Kaapzicht Estate Steytler Pinotage 2004

  • SAAM Mountain Heldersig Pinotage Viognier 2006

  • Stellenzicht Golden Triangle Pinotage 2005

  • Stormhoek The Siren Pinotage 2006

I have never heard of SAAM Mountain Heldersig, and they are not listed in Platter 2007 and a Google gets not a single hit, but it is interesting they have a Pinotage/Viognier. Fermenting Pinotage with a little white Viogner (the way the southern Rhone treats Syrah) was pioneered by Fairview.

Congratulations to all the winners. For the full results, see http://www.decanter.com/worldwineawards/2007/

  1. Congratulations to the Pinotages for doing so well. Sounds as if you had a busy time at the LIWSF Peter - hope you can relax this Bank Holiday Weekend.

    Cheers, Nick

  2. Hi there,
TY for your comments re sulphites!
Yes, I do appreciate that most wines, if not all contain them. Went on to Wikipeadia before doing post. But, I am a regular wine drinker, my way of relaxing in the evening! I much prefer red, shiraz, cab sav; etc & rarely, no never, drink anything under 12.5 to 13% alchol. But, some wines for no obvious reason do produce a hangover headache more than others. This is not a pheonomeon[ don't think I spelt that right- sorry] to me alone. A girlfriend of mine suffers seriously & is keeping a log of wines tha effect her. She's even doubled checked them to be sure it wasn't female monthly sensibilities!
Anyway, you have an interesting site. Will be back again & not to moan! Please do visit me again too.
    Best wishes
    Blue
